TOUR CAPE TOWN
If the Cape Doctor (the South Easter wind) is too strong or, for some other reason, diving is not possible, we can dive into the Winelands, where the wine farms offer some of the best wines to taste in the world. We have a couple of wine regions around Cape Town with the most famous being the Stellenbosch winelands area. But one of the oldest with a lot of history linked to it being Groot Constantia wine farm a mere 25 minute drive from Cape Town City centre. The sister farm Klein Constantia also famous for the sweet desert wine call Vin De Constance with Groot Constantia producing the Grand Constance. This wine was drunk by Napoleon and Jane Austen wrote about it. So definitely worth it to visit these wine farms as well.
Behind Stellenbosch we have the Franchhoek Wine valley and just before it another historic wine farm called Boschendal. The Franchhoek Valley previously known as elephants corner, was given to the Huguenots when they arrived in South Africa from France, thus the name Franchhoek meaning French Corner. Here are lots of great vineyards with, stunning scenery, good wine and of course restaurants with top notch food. Most of the farms have stunning Mountains close by. Or you look down a valley from a wine farm tasting room. You will learn about some wine terms and some fascinating facts about South African wines.
And of course our Proudly South African wine called Pinotage needs to be tasted.
If wine is not your thing these valleys like the Paarl area also offer, chocolate tasting with chocolate made here in South Africa from imported cacao beans. Ice cream can be tasted, cheeses from Fairview which also makes wine and you can see some of the goats from which milk produce some awesome cheeses. Alpaca farm for kids to see and woven blankets and scarves to buy. We are really spoilt for choice in these valleys all in an hour drive from Cape Town. Stellenbosch the oldest town now in South Africa got some nice old buildings and great to visit the Village museum. And with coffee shops all over and small shops to browse and buy some souvenirs or just something nice and useful.
To Tour Cape Town and its surrounds are really great as it is full of history and got many monuments with most of them having an interesting story going with them.
Nature lovers can explore Table Mountain either by hiking it up or take the Cable car up. Hiking can be done with you and a friend but a good suggestion is to get a Mountain guide to take you up and explain some of the plants etc. Kirstenbosch Gardens are a great morning or afternoon trip to look at our diverse South African flora and even spot some nice birds whilst there. Then of course we got couple of beaches where you can swim in on the Falsebay side or just sunbath on the Campsbay and Clifton beaches watching the sun go down. Or if it gets chilly for the beach go for sundowners in one of the many restaurants and bars on the coastal road.
The weather is quite fair throughout the year in Cape Town with winter months (May to August) being the wettest but with the rain comes some of the best False Bay diving. During summer (September to April) the air temperature can rise to 35 degrees Celsius in Cape Town and even higher inland. With temperatures this high, the South Easter is always welcome.
Cape Town can be visited all year round as summer and winter weather conditions allow diving in different parts of the Peninsula and touring can be done every month. July to September is normally very good months for Scuba diving. The weather however tends to through curve balls these days so could change in a wink. Extra things for this time of the year are wild flowers viewing on the west coast in Langebaan area and whale watching in Hermanus.
So come Tour Cape Town with us and we can try and show as much as possible with your stay here in our wonderful town/city or oceans.
